1 September saw Swedish specialist logistics company MTAB establish a subsidiary in Norway, MTAB Norge AS, through the purchase of Ontime Logistics’ specialist logistics division.
MTAB is taking over the division of Ontime Logistics (formerly Cargo Partner, a long-standing player in Norway) which handles specialist logistics in the field of art transport and associated warehousing activities. The offices and warehouse, measuring over 1,000 m2, are located in Oslo and the division turns over NOK 8.5 million per year.
”We wanted to develop our art och movedepartment and was looking for an owner with a similar product portfolio as ourselves. Moving is a bit on the side of our business and we are very pleased to have found a buyer who match our profile. We are confident that MTAB is the right solution for this department and we know that existing customers will continue to be well taken care of”, says CEO of Ontime Logistics, Aniela Gjøs.
“Our strategy is to be the Nordic region’s leading player in the niches where we are active: Technical Distribution and Art & Exhibition Logistics,” explains Simon Fors, Managing Director of MTAB.
MTAB currently has several customers who see the whole Nordic region as a single market. This growing international trade creates a greater need to have just one supplier for expert transport and value-added services.
“In these prevailing market conditions, MTAB is ideally placed to be seen as a natural Nordic partner,” says Simon Fors. MTAB has had a presence in Denmark since 2009 and needs to expand its services in Norway, since there has been a steady increase in the company’s assignments to, from and within Norway.
“By taking over an established operation with three qualified and experienced members of staff, we will quickly have a local platform,” comments Simon Fors. “We will then be incorporating those parts of MTAB’s business that are not yet covered within the existing framework. Our strategy is to retain and, above all, expand the current business and make it more profitable. We see clear market potential on both the art front and the technical front.”
“MTAB’s product range and commitment to high quality will be a feature of every market in which we are active. We aim to have a local presence with local employees and to see growth in all our geographic markets,” concludes Simon Fors.

Simon Fors became the Managing Director of MTAB on 1 May. Simon succeeds his father Stefan Fors, founder and owner of MTAB, who will become the new executive chairman and concentrate on business development issues.

Simon Fors has held various positions within MTAB since joining the company in 1995. In recent years, for instance, he has been Deputy MD and head of the Malmö office and been responsible for administration and production.
“After Simon’s many years with the company in a range of positions, and the management training that he has just completed, this is the right time for a change of MD. MTAB needs a modern leader to tackle modern times head on. As well as managing the business, Simon will continue to focus on the company’s production and product development,” says Stefan Fors.
Simon Fors comments on his new role as MD:
“First and foremost, I want to consolidate MTAB’s position as the Nordic region’s leading specialist transport company in the various business areas that we’ve developed over the years. I see great market potential in several of the more advanced services that we currently offer.”
MTAB is a service company where the majority of the services require craftsmanship, expertise and commitment from each employee. The business also requires a strong interest in our customers and their products.
“My challenge lies in developing our staff in an organisational form that can comfortably accommodate growth, without losing the commitment of our employees and their closeness to the market,” states Simon Fors.
Simon Fors is 35 years old, has two children and lives in Bromma. He graduated as a marketing economist and has completed management training at the Stockholm School of Economics IFL Executive Education.

Eleven leading European companies in the field of technical distribution and installation services have launched a joint network called TecDis. The network’s partner in Sweden is MTAB. MTAB is already a member of another European network in the technical distribution area, Teneso. The two networks give MTAB access to a unique spread of partners in the transport, logistics and installation of sensitive and valuable technical goods.

MTAB takes over Business Area Kulturtransporter from ICM Kungsholms. Kulturtransporter handles complete theater and symphony orchestras tour transportation. MTAB strengthens in the deal their own tour transport.
- We see this as an important and significant step to further develop and coordinate our current tour transport, says Stefan Fors, president of MTAB. The deal provides us the resources, experience and expertise that gives us a stronger platform to deliver services to existing and new clients. All employees and vehicles that are currently linked to Kulturtransporter released for MTAB will, as before, be based at the office in Örebro.
Parts of the world famous terracotta army from China are now in place at the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm. This unique exhibition, which is being displayed in a quite spectacular setting, also contains more recent finds from similar burial sites. MTAB handled the whole shipping process from Xian to Stockholm.

For the first time ever, the exhibits are going to be displayed underground, in the secret caverns below the museum, on the island of Skeppsholmen in the heart of Stockholm. This setting is strongly reminiscent of the environment in which the artefacts were originally found.
